MACERATING TOILET SYSTEMS
Saniflo first invented the macerating toilet in Europe in 1958. Today, Saniflo’s engineered macerator toilet is a standard fixture in Europe but has only recently found its way to North America.
Dedicated to creating strong, durable units for households that wanted a hardworking macerator toilet, Saniflo started in the traditional bathroom fixture market and expanded from there. Today, Saniflo is a top choice for people who want to install a macerating toilet or who are just starting to learn what a macerator can do for their home plumbing.
WHY CHOOSE MACERATING TOILETS?
A macerating toilet is ideal for households that want to install a bathroom where it may otherwise be difficult. Because they don’t require custom plumbing, it can be set up anywhere there is an electrical and water supply, macerator toilets go in simply, cleanly, and inexpensively, without the need to rip out floors or dump thousands of dollars into the bathroom.
HOW DO MACERATORS WORK?
The word macerate means "to soften" or "to break into pieces." Macerators use a rotating stainless steel cutting blade designed to liquefy waste and move it to a separate area. When you flush waste down a macerator toilet, the cutting blade engages and liquefies it in preparation to pump the waste into a sanitary sewer.
Because fine waste requires less power to move, it can be transported over a longer distance than larger blocks of waste can, which makes it easy to install a macerating system virtually anywhere you please.
What’s more, since most macerators are equipped with grinders, they’re also capable of grinding up accidentally flushed waste products, including feminine hygiene products, and transporting them to your sanitary sewer.
THE CASE FOR MACERATING TOILETS
While they’re relatively new in America, macerator toilets have been around for years, and they’re a valuable solution for homeowners facing placement issues in their new bathrooms.
By simplifying the process of adding a new bathroom to a home or office, a macerator toilet allows you to get the full or half bathroom you’ve always dreamed of without the hassle, expense, and large renovation.
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
WHAT IS A MACERATING TOILET SYSTEM?
This type of toilet has a built-in macerator pump that liquefies human waste and then pushes it up to the sewer drain pipe. Macerator toilets, also called upflush toilets, are ideal for when homeowners wish to add a bathroom in an area where water pressure is low or in a location below the sewer drain pipe, such as a basement room or an outhouse.
A Saniflo upflush toilet kit typically consists of an elongated bowl, a toilet seat, a macerator pump, a toilet tank, and an optional extension pipe for behind-the-wall installation. Saniflo toilets come in two-piece and one-piece designs.
HOW DOES A MACERATING TOILET SYSTEM WORK?
A Saniflo toilet flushes waste to a macerator pump at the back of the toilet bowl. The unit has heavy-duty blades that grind waste into a slurry before pumping it through a pipe connected to the main sewer drain line.
The SaniPLUS macerating pump can be installed and connected to existing toilet systems to build a macerator toilet.
DO MACERATING TOILETS WORK WELL?
Yes, Saniflo upflush toilets have been tried and tested for decades, making them some of the best macerating toilet systems in the world. These toilets are standard fixtures in Europe and have recently found their way to North America.
From the Saniflo SaniPLUS macerating upflush toilet to the Saniflo SaniACCESS 2, every Saniflo toilet is engineered for high performance in places with low water pressure or areas far away from the main drain line. We pride ourselves on offering the best macerating toilets.
HOW LONG DO MACERATING TOILETS LAST?
Saniflo systems last about 10 to 15 years or longer. They have been flush tested up to 50,000 times as part of Saniflo’s standard test to ensure product quality.
HOW MUCH WATER DO SANIFLO SYSTEMS USE?
With Saniflo systems, water consumption is kept to a minimum. The SaniACCESS3, SaniBEST Pro, and SaniPro models only use 1.28 gallons (4.8 liters) of water per flush. Meanwhile, the SaniCOMPACT 48 and SaniSTAR models, which are dual-flush systems, use 1 gallon (4 liters) and 1.28 gallons per flush, respectively.
